Current Status and Outlook

ISANG has intensified into a Tropical Storm, and is now named globally as “OMAIS” – a Palauan word for “wandering around”…moving closer to Miyakojima while moving north-northwest across the North Philippine Sea.

This storm is forecast to intensify further into a Severe Tropical Storm (STS) within the next 12 to 24 hours and will continue moving north-northwestward across the East Taiwan Sea. It is likely to exit the northern border of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by tomorrow morning (Aug 22) and will pass over or very close to Miyakojima between 7-9 AM.

Since the storm is expected to be outside of PAR by tomorrow afternoon, this will be the final stormwatch on this Tropical Cyclone.

  • This is the Final StormWatch on this Tropical Cyclone.
